Schiermansiekoog: ~ dorp / village

Het Koningshuis aan de Nieuwestreek nummer 1 is gebouwd in 1876 als meesterswoning voor de hoofdonderwijzer, tegelijk met de toentertijd nieuwe Lagere School en met financiering van koning Willem III (1817-1890). De school is afgebroken in 1978 om plaats te maken voor nieuwbouw van het gemeentehuis. De meesterswoning echter, is bewoond geweest tot 2018 als 'meester' (hoofdonderwijzer) Henk Koning overlijdt. Het Koningshuis is naar hem vernoemd (niet naar koning Willem III)

King's House was built in 1876 as a teacher's residence for the head master, at the same time as the then new Primary School and with funding from King William III (1817-1890). The school was demolished in 1978, to make way for a the new town hall. Teacher's house, however, was inhabited until the year 2018, when Headmaster Henk Koning (his last name translates as 'King') passed away. King's House is named after him (not after King Wiliam)

Mijn gids vertelt, dat het Koningshuis op de nominatie heeft gestaan om te worden afgebroken en zodoende plaats te maken voor een appartementen nieuwbouw. Onderhand is het oude pand verbouwd en ter beschikking gesteld aan Stichting Beheer Historisch Erfgoed 't Heer en Feer Schiermonnikoog. De opening heeft plaatsgevonden op 31 mei 2021. Het Koningshuis als plek voor cultuurhistorie & -archief, historische films, tentoonstellingen, projecten en ook activiteiten als senioren-koffieochtenden en schildersclub De Kwast

My guide tells me, that King's House has been nominated to be demolished to make way for a new apartment building. The old building has now been renovated and made available to the Historical Heritage Management Foundation 't Heer en Feer Schiermonnikoog. The opening took place on May 31, 2021. King's House as a place for cultural history & archive, historical films, exhibitions, projects and also activities such as senior coffee mornings and painters' club The Brush

De Cultuur Historische Vereniging 't Heer en Feer telt zo'n 490 leden. Hiervan wonen er 200 op Schiermonnikoog. De anderen zijn eilandliefhebbers aan de vaste wal. De Vereniging heeft als doel het opsporen en registreren van eilander erfgoed en het verspreiden van de kennis daarover. Voor de verenigingsnaam 't Heer en Feer (deze uitdrukking is vroeger veel gebruikt) is geen goede Nederlandse vertaling, maar betekent zoiets als: het hele eiland, met alles er op en er aan; het hele reilen en zeilen; het wel en wee. De uitdrukking stamt uit het gedicht ’t Eilaun van Pita Grilk, uit haar bundel Swyljen

The Cultural Historical Association 't Heer en Feer has about 490 members. Of these, 200 live on the island Schiermonnikoog. The others are island lovers on the mainland. The aim of the Association is to trace and register island heritage and to disseminate knowledge about it. There is no good Dutch translation for the association name 't Heer en Feer (this expression was used a lot in the past), but it means something like: the whole island, with everything on it; the whole ins and outs; the ups and downs. The expression comes from a poem by an islander writer

De openingstijden van de kleinschalige expositie zijn voorlopig op donderdag, vrijdag en zaterdag van 15 – 17:30 uur en de toegang is gratis (een donatie wordt op prijs gesteld)

The opening hours of the small-scale exhibition are provisionally on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 3 – 5:30 pm and admission is free (a donation is appreciated)
